The Digit-al Dozen Does Festiveness day 4 - wrapping paper nails!

Hey friends! Welcome to day 4 of festive nails week, aka glitter nails week for me I guess haha. Let's just get right to the nails!

I'm not really sure what to call these nails so after thinking about it for a bit and waffling back and forth between ornament-inspired nails and wrapping paper-inspired nails, I decided to go with wrapping paper since that's what they look the most like to me!

These started with two coats of Pure Ice Femme Fatale, one of the velour polishes from the new line that they released recently. I wore that on its own for a day (I'll be posting swatches soon but you can get a sneak peek of it on my Instagram - @dressedupnails) and then while I was watching a movie last week I took out my striping tape and just started playing around with it.

Making this pattern was pretty time-consuming since there are so many specific angles involved and the tiny shapes were very hard to get clean lines on. I ended up having to fix some of my angles and lines with my small detailing brush - mostly on my thumb (since it was the first finger I did) and my pinkie (since it's the smallest).

So, if you also want to spend way too long on your nails while you're watching a movie, here's how I did these! I placed a piece of striping tape vertically along the each side of my nail. Then I placed a piece horizontally across the top and bottom of my nail to form a square (that's 4 pieces so far). Then I placed 4 pieces of tape over the square so that they formed the diamond in the middle. I had to make sure that each piece of tape intersected each square side at the exact middle to make everything look even. After I had all my tape laid (one finger at a time) I painted a thick coat of China Glaze Champagne Kisses and then quickly removed the tape while it was still wet.

So there you go! These were very fiddly and kind of frustrating and painstaking to accomplish but the pattern ended up being exactly what I wanted and they just look so festive to me. I think they were worth the time it took... what do y'all think?

Don't forget to check out the other ladies' lovely manicures for today!

  5. What tape do you use? Every time I use tape, it rips off my base coat, or, if it just ruins the top coat that I paint over the tape.
