Hey everybunny, today is day 2 of the Geometric Challenge - round!
I knew I wanted to do something with dotting tools for today's theme because I am still not so great with freehanding curved lines, ESPECIALLY circles. I had a couple ideas but again decided to Google around for something I liked better and again I did!
This image can be found here and it was one of the last images I saw on my search, but as soon as I saw it I ditched all the other ideas I'd had and decided to do this.
I thought it would be fairly simple but MAN was I wrong. It ended up taking me just under 2 hours for both hands. I don't really know how to explain how I did this design because I think I went about it a pretty ridiculous way, but I'll try. I started with a base of China Glaze White on White and then used China Glaze Purple Panic and a dotting tool to mark off the first section of color at the cuticle end of my nails.
Then I took my tiny detailing brush and China Glaze Grape Pop and traced around the row of dots I'd placed using Purple Panic. On a couple nails I painted the tips with Purple Panic and then used Grape Pop to make the dots on the edge of the dark purple. Then using a bigger detailing brush I filled everything in.
Once that was done I started placing the dots... there's really no rhyme or reason to how I did this. I just sort of made it up as I went, varying the dot size and stacking order until my nails were filled. I used Orly Fresh (green), Orly Pure Porcelain (ivory), China Glaze Happy Go Lucky (yellow), and China Glaze First Mate (navy blue).
This ended up being A LOT of dots, and it's not as much like the inspiration pattern as I originally wanted it to be, but I still love how it turned out. It's so busy and visually interesting, I love having patterns like this on my nails... they're so fun to look at to me.
See y'all soon! Don't forget to check out with the other ladies came up with for today :)

These are sooo cute! I wish I could have that much patience to do this design. Maybe I could do it on one nail, and paint the rest a solid color. 2 hours is a little much for me! But I love them, so I would totally do it if I could sit that long. Good job!! :]
ReplyDeleteWonderful design! Color combo is so beautiful!
